Beneficially recycling the treated water and nutrient-rich biosolids, and recovering energy from waste gases increases the efficiency of our wastewater treatment plants, conserves resources, protects the environment and saves money.
We protect water quality and prevent water pollution by providing wastewater treatment to 17 cities and 17 local sewer utilities. Wastewater Treatment Division serves about 1.5 million people, including most urban areas of King County and parts of south Snohomish County and northeast Pierce County.

About the Role: The Wastewater Treatment Division (WTD) is partnering with the Mountains to Sound Greenway Trust to provide a high school summer internship program. We are seeking 12 interns interested in learning how government agencies, nonprofit organizations and local communities influence the health of the waterways in the Puget Sound region. Job Duties What You Will Be Doing: Operate, monitor, and maintain biological, chemical, mechanical, and hydraulic processes at wastewater treatment plants, collection system pump and regulator stations and associated facilities. Operate, monitor, and control wastewater equipment and systems with complex computer systems. Perform maintenance on offsite facilities and associated structures, including buildings equipment, and grounds. Duties include cleaning, servicing operating equipment, and performing housekeeping tasks. Operate, monitor, troubleshoot and maintain systems and processes in pump stations and stormwater facilities. Provide troubleshooting, problem-solving, coordination and decision-making when performing duties, particularly for West Offsite pump stations, be able to respond to unusual and/or emergency situations.
