INTERVIEW TIPS

Answering tough questions in job interviews

So the interviewer asks you a question that you can’t answer. Don’t sweat it with this technique. You have to accept that you don’t have an answer for everything so instead use the search “search and response” method for difficult situations.

This technique will allow you to understand the question at hand and how best to respond.

Whenever you encounter a question that you don't know how to answer, do the following:

Think of the best initial answer to the question and then break down your answer into 2 to 3 points.

Begin your answer with honesty…. "I don’t have a full picture but I think”….”As far as I can figure”…”To the best of my knowledge”…”If I did not understand fully, I hope I can answer in this way”….

Then you can go on to explain the first point of your initial answer but do so after a short pause ….”Do you see what I am saying”…”Am I in the right direction”…”Do you have any thoughts so far”…

This technique requires the interviewer to then ask further questions. It is subtle but you are not reacting anymore, you are now in a proactive interview method.

Use this technique to take control of a job interview and be your own boss! Do your very best at getting the job or career, esp. if it be a government one.
