Organization Information
Note: To minimize your entry time when you later post job announcements, most of the information you will provide in this section is used to automatically prepopulate corresponding fields in CIG's job posting form. Any of this information you do not wish displayed in your ad should be deleted.
Organization Name: Employers are encouraged to list their organization umbrella name, as you may specify a department in the "Department" field. When completing this box, consider that the name entered here will be used in any alphabetized list of employers. Thus, the "County of Washington" may appear in a different location then "Washington County".
Total Employees: This is the total number of employees in the work force for which the above named organization is responsible for recruiting and hiring, regardless of whether they are full-time, part-time or seasonal. In most cases, this is the total number of employees authorized in the organization's operating budget. In the absence of an exact figure, please provide your best estimate.
Agency Seal or Other Image: On each employer's profile page, as well as on each employer's job post, space is reserved for an image of your choice. Most agencies choose to insert their agency's seal, however you are free to place any image you like here (if left blank, CIG inserts a default image with flags of the world). The image field is pre-configured to be 150 pixels square (about an 1.25 inches on a 17" monitor) and only .GIF and .JPG format should be used. Nearly every agency will be sure to have someone who is familiar with these specifications!
To upload your image to CIG, click on the browser button to the right of the field, select the image file from its location and double click to make it appear in the designated field. It is that easy! Note, with some browsers you will need to exit and reopen the browser to view your image in place.
Description: Information entered here will be viewed as the narrative portion of your CIG Employer Profile. Employers often use this space to describe their organization including its size, governing structure, operating budget and number of employees. It is also a place to describe the host community's appeal as a place to live and work. Copy and paste information into this space from an existing document or your own web site to quickly and easily complete this optional field, and make your agency an "employer of choice". Generous space is provided, however we find a one or two paragraph profile has the best odds of being read.
Web Address (URL): The address you enter in this field will appear on your CIG Employer Profile page. Most often, it is the employer's home page, however you can enter any page you like. If your organization does not have its own web site, you may wish to insert a community information page such as the local Chamber of Commerce.
Job Post
Summary: This section should give the job seeker a general overview of the job itself, your organization, and/or highlights of your city that will differentiate you from the competition. Anything that you would like your future employee to learn in the first few seconds should be added here. Remember, you never have a second chance to make a first impression.
Description: This is the meat of your job announcement. Remember to include all of the necessary details. Accurately set job seeker expectations by fully listing all related job duties. There’s no space limitation, so go ahead and take full advantage by providing a comprehensive job description, complete with all the benefits your organization has to offer.
Requirements: In this section, list the skills and education necessary for the job. It is important to let job seekers know just what is expected of them. Use individual paragraphs, bullets or a combination of both to enhance the look and readability of your posting. This is a great way to pre-qualify job seekers by detailing all job requirements from the start. The more details you include, the more targeted your results should be.
Special Instructions: Special Instructions is an area where you should outline exactly how, where, and when you would like the candidate to apply for the job. We have a list of job applications available in the field that says “job applications”. If you do not see your organization’s application here, please let us know and we will upload one immediately. This is also the area where you can add any additional details of the job or application process. Note: If you offer a variety of response options, we suggest providing a job code in your job description to help track where the response is coming from (ex: CIG-Engineer123).
Job Categories: Consider choosing multiple Categories for your job. This will help your posting come up in a variety of searches. Someone looking for a secretarial job may not have selected Administrative Assistant or Data Entry and vice versa. There is no extra charge to have your job show up in multiple job categories, so be sure to select as many categories that match your job as possible.
Managing Jobs
As an employer, you have the ability to manage your job postings 24/7, and the changes you make occur in real-time. There are several tasks you can accomplish in this section. You can: Edit, Clone, Archive, and View Job Seeker Resumes. When you are logged into Careers In Government with your username and password, select the tab “Manage Jobs”. From there, you will have access to make any changes to the job itself, clone the job if you have a similar job to post and don’t want to add it from scratch, delete the job entirely, or archive the job in case you would like to reopen the position at a later date. This is also an area where you can view the resumes of prospective employees. Additionally, here is where you can view all the jobs you have ever posted on Careers In Government, including any archived jobs.
