JOB TITLE NURSE MANAGER

ANNUAL SALARY $72,662 - $90,264
A bonus of up to 8% may be paid for the provision of services in the Medical Services Division, which includes the jail clinics that are open twenty-four hours per day.
Description:

A Nurse Manager assigns, reviews and evaluates the work of the clinical coordinators, nurses, and ancillary staff in the provision of services within the Medical Services Division; applies sound supervisory principles and techniques in building and maintaining an effective work force; may perform clinical duties; fulfills equal employment opportunity responsibilities; and does related work.

Requirements:
 
  1. Possession of a current and valid Registered Nurse License issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing (Candidates must list their RN License number in the appropriate box on the application); and
     
  2. Possession of a current American Heart Association CPR card (Candidates must list the expiration date of their CPR card in the Special License box on the application); and
     
  3. Graduation from a recognized four-year college or university with a degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Public Health, or Public Administration (Applications must list their school name, location, degree, and completion date in the appropriate section on the application); and
     
  4. Five years of full-time paid professional registered nursing experience, three years of which must provide experience as a Charge Nurse, Unit Manager, or Clinical Coordinator. Candidates must list their Charge Nurse, Unit Manager or Clinical Coordinator experience separately in the work history section of the application.
     
  5. In addition to the regular City application form, each candidate is required to submit the on-line Nurse Manager Training and Experience Questionnaire. Candidates will have until close of filing to submit the on-line Nurse Manager Training and Experience Questionnaire. Candidates who fail to submit both the application form and Training and Experience Questionnaire within the time required will not be considered candidates in the examination and their applications will not be processed. NOTES:

  1. A Masters degree in Nursing is preferred. Ambulatory clinics and urgent care experience is preferred.
     
  2. At the time of appointment, candidates must submit verification of their current, valid American Heart Association Healthcare Provide CPR card.

SELECTION PROCESS Examination Weight:
Evaluation of Training and Experience Questionnaire . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 100%

The examination will consist entirely of an evaluation of an evaluation of training and experience, wherein candidates will be evaluated on their knowledge, experience, professional background, personal qualifications and abilities, including knowledge of: problems, procedures and techniques in the administration of emergency medical treatment; legal provisions, policies and procedures for the provision of nursing care and medical clinic operations, including maintaining medical confidentiality and compliance with the United States Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA); safety regulations, principles and practices necessary in a medical environment; rendering aid and the operation of medical emergency equipment and apparatus; proactively determine the requirements and components of programs being managed; monitor functions and make adjustments necessary to achieve program goals and objectives; supervisory principles and practices, including planning, delegating, training, instructing, counseling, disciplining, motivating subordinate personnel, evaluating subordinate work performance and controlling the work of subordinates; City Personnel Rules, procedures for grievance handling, Memoranda of Understanding and Equal Employment Opportunity principles; ability to supervise the work of professional and ancillary staff; establish and maintain a work environment to enhance employee morale and productivity; follow instructions and act independently in conformance with established medical practices; maintain records; use a computer and computer software; communicate effectively with others; deal tactfully and effectively with employees, subordinate staff, patients and the public; and other necessary skills, knowledge and abilities.

Training and Experience Questionnaires and City employment applications of all candidates will be submitted to an expert review panel for evaluation. The expert review panel will assign a numeric score to each candidate based on an assessment of each candidates qualifications as described on the Training and Experience Questionnaire. Unsolicited supplemental information will not be submitted to the expert review panel.
