Summer Jobs for Newark Youth
Organization: City of Newark
Summary:
For the 1st time, Newark businesses by the dozens partner with City to create more opportunities for our kids. |
Description:
The Booker Administration has succeeded in creating the most exciting summer job pro-gram for Newark Kids in years. Now children in Newark will have an emboldened opportunity to Learn while they Earn. Through a new partner-ship with Newark Businesses, over 100 companies have stepped forward to provide city youth with summer work opportunities and richer professional experiences. From major law firms to local car wash establishments, from small entrepreneurial businesses to large corporations, young adults will get to experience a much wider array of work experiences.
The Booker Administration is committed to providing meaningful opportunities for our youth. With the support of the Municipal Council, almost 1.7 million dollars has been set aside for the Summer Youth Work Experience. NewarkWorks will provide pre-employment job readiness, job matching and program oversight. The six-week program begins July 9th and participants are paid $7.15 per hour for a 20 hour work week. The great news is that this year, many companies have generously agreed to cover the salaries for the remaining hours of the work week thus allowing us to provide expanded opportunities for our youth. We celebrate those Newark companies who are allowing us to grow our program
Local major companies like Cablevision, Continental Airlines, Gateway Security, and PSE&G are offering residents meaningful professional opportunities. The Newark One-Stop is now accepting contact information of residents interested in employment opportunities at the Prudential Center. A multitude of positions related to arena operations will soon be made available and we encourage you to visit our One-Stop Center for more information.
