Under direction performs work of moderate difficulty in providing professional legal representation for indigents. This is a professional legal position. An employee in this class prepares and tries assigned misdemeanor, traffic, or juvenile cases. Responsibility for assigned cases is from inception to ultimate disposition. Work is performed under the direction of the Public Defender.
Good knowledge of the methods, principles and practices of criminal law. Ability to analyze legal problems and present findings in a clear and logical form. Considerable skill in written and oral communication. Working skill in effective interviewing and counseling techniques. Good knowledge of the procedures and rules of evidence. Good knowledge of the principles, methods, materials, practices and references utilized in legal research. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with Court officials, County officials and the general public.
Graduation from an American Bar Association accredited Law School. Applicant must be licensed to practice law in the State of Illinois.
