Santa Barbara County government is a service-oriented organization with an approximate $828 million budget, 20 departments, and a workforce of approximately 3,800 employees dedicated to providing quality services to a diverse population of 425,000.
The County is seeking a General Services Director who must be an experienced organizational leader with public sector experience who is masterful at leveraging operational expertise and will use strong people skills in order to achieve challenging organizational goals. This candidate will be a proven professional with strong communication skills, political agility, and the ability to skillfully partner, collaborate with others, and build and maintain strong relationships. The ideal candidate will also have significant project management experience. The General Services Director reports to the County Executive Officer (CEO) and has 114 full time employees and a total operating budget of $40.7 million with a current capital budget of $8.8 million. Excellent Customer Service is the keystone to the Department’s business culture and is guided by innovative thinking and continual process improvement; open and honest communication; using financial resources wisely; involving the customer early in the decision making process; investing in staff through training and job enrichment; and modeling a culture of safety.
Candidates must possess at least five years of General Services operations or similar experience in a public agency. Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in a related field is required. The salary for the General Services Director is dependent upon qualifications.
