Cal State East Bay is seeking a Police Chief who will provide leadership, management, and supervision to a department of approximately 26 staff located on two campus sites. The incoming Chief will plan, direct, organize and maintain the campus public safety program which includes: crime prevention, investigations, facility security, emergency/disaster preparedness, traffic control, confidential law enforcement, and tort liability. The Chief acts as a liaison to external law enforcement agencies, administers the department budget and provides guidance to campus administrators, as appropriate. The ideal candidate must demonstrate the ability to effectively and efficiently manage a complex organization, have exceptional writing, speaking, analytical, and organizational skills and success in securing and managing external funding for departmental initiatives. Knowledge of recruiting, hiring and training quality personnel will be an asset, as the new Chief will be selecting a Lieutenant shortly after being hired. |
The selected Chief is expected to have a minimum of 10 years of law enforcement experience, including 3 or more years in increasingly responsible managerial capacities (preferably in higher education environments). Current advanced POST certification preferred or must be able to satisfy all POST standards within 1 year of employment. A Bachelor’s degree in Public Safety or a related field is required, a Master’s is preferred. The salary range is $110,000 - $130,000 and is dependent upon qualifications.
