Under general supervision, the TMC Operators are responsible for the Advanced Transportation Management System (ATMS). Utilizes ATMS to help coordinate event and incident responses and manage traffic to make the most efficient use the regional transportation facilities.

Description:

Works closely with the LCDOT Traffic Engineers, LCDOT maintenance and emergency response personnel. Collects, consolidates and de-conflicts real time incident and event details that are captured through Customer Service, CCTV images, radio, phone and the ATMS. Enters event and incident information into the ATMS and generates response plans. Reviews, approves and implements responses as appropriate in accordance with LCDOT policies and procedures. Responses can include changes to selected traffic signal timing plans, Dynamic Message Sign (DMS) implementations, Highway Advisory Radio (HAR) broadcasts, public informational notices, field crew dispatch, DOT management notifications, or other operator actions. Implements pre-approved planned event response, and monitor planned events to ensure that they are progressing as planned. Performs routine equipment status checks and monitors equipment for potential operational problems. Provides guidance and training for new TMC Operators.

Requirements:

Required Skills

Solid written and verbal communication skills. Familiarity with the regional roadway system. Familiarity with the use of most for these computer software such as Word, Excel, Access, Adobe Acrobat, PowerPoint, Visio, Microsoft Project, CAD, MicroStation, GIS etc.. Ability to take on new tasks and consolidation assignments without guidance or support. Ability to find specific locations throughout the County based on route and cross street or reference point. Basic knowledge of traffic and incident management. Ability to adapt to unforeseen situations and react appropriately. Ability to set up and coordinate TMC operator training.

Required Experience

Requires a Bachelor's degree or education and training equivalent to four years of college. Education in the field of Computer Science and/or Information Technology is desired. The work hours for this position are 10:30am to 7:00pm. May be required to rotate shifts or provide on-call support to meet extended operation of the TMC; may work varying shifts and may require overtime for supporting ongoing incidents or other events. May be required to wear a pager and be on-call to respond as needed to support TMC operations.
