The City of Coronado, population approximately 25,000, (2 million visitors per year), is a small beach community, with an island feel.  

The City is currently seeking a Director of Police Services/Chief of Police to oversee a budget of approximately $9 million for fiscal year 2012-13 and 67 full-time equivalent employees.  The ideal candidate will assume full management responsibility for all department services and activities including law enforcement, criminal investigations, traffic control measures, community relations, dispatch, records management, crime preventions, animal services, staff training, coordination of assigned activities with other departments and outside agencies, and provision of highly responsible and complex administrative support to the City Manager.  An individual who is focused on service oriented policing, is comfortable being in the public eye, and has the ability to connect with the community on a personal level will excel in this position. 

 The selected candidate will have at least ten years of increasingly responsible law enforcement experience including four years of senior management and administrative responsibility as well as a Bachelor’s degree with major coursework in criminal justice, business administration, police science or a related field.  Additionally, graduation from the FBI National Academy and/or POST command college is desirable.  The salary range for the Director of Police Services/Chief of Police is $140,088-$167,172 and is dependent upon qualifications and experience.  The City also offers an attractive benefits package.
