Summary:

The Children’s Board of Hillsborough County (CBHC) is located in Tampa, Florida, the county seat of Hillsborough County (pop. 1.3 million), which borders Tampa Bay in West Central Florida.  Created as a special taxing district authorized to levy taxes at a millage rate not exceeding 50 cents for each $1,000 of assessed valuation,  the Children’s Board promotes the well-being of children and families by uniting community partners, investing in innovative opportunities, and leading the County in best practices.  The CBHC is governed by a ten-member Board consisting of five specified local governmental officials and five members who are appointed by the Governor of Florida.  The agency has thirty-four full-time employees and an operating budget of approximately $33 million.  The Board is seeking a motivated and dynamic Executive Director to lead the agency into its next phase of growth and challenges, which includes a 2016 voter referendum. 

Description:

The Executive Director is responsible for developing and submitting a proposed annual budget to the Board, recommending policies related to evaluation of funding requests, monitoring programs funded by the Board, evaluating staff, and performing other duties as designated by the Board.  A strong leader who can serve as an ambassador to promote the agency’s mission locally and state-wide is essential.  The ideal candidate is a proven leader and visionary, with exceptional communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.  Candidates should be politically astute, with an open management style that is collaborative, team-oriented, and inspires growth and employee development.  The successful candidate will have experience with budget management, contracts management, organizational development, and performance management. 

Requirements:

A Bachelor’s degree is required; a Master’s degree is preferred.  At least ten years of progressively responsible senior leadership experience in business, not-for-profits, or government is needed.
