The University of Oregon, located in Eugene, is a world-class teaching and comprehensive research university that serves its students and the people of Oregon.  The University was granted authority to establish a new Police Department.  

The Chief of Police/Executive Director of Public Safety will be responsible for leading all aspects of this new organization and will continue to guide the transition of public safety functions to the new Police Department status.  This is an exciting opportunity for a seasoned individual to assist in the success of the newly organized Department.  The incoming Police Chief will lead, direct, and plan all functions and operations of the Department in the protection of life and property, enforcement of laws and regulations, and the prevention of crime.  The selected candidate will be a liaison with other local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies including the Eugene Police Department, Lane County Sheriff’s Office, Oregon State Police, Federal Bureau of Investigation, and courts such as the Lane County Circuit Court and the Eugene Municipal Court.  A Chief who supports the community-oriented and trust-based policing philosophy will excel in this position. 

 A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is required, preferably in a field related to public administration or criminal justice, and graduation from the Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy or some other senior management/leadership school is desired.  Experience related to higher-education and supervising in a collective bargaining environment is preferred.  The salary for the incoming Police Chief is open and is dependent upon qualifications.  The University also offers an attractive benefits package.
