Description:

 

Position Overview:

The supervisor will be responsible for planning and organizing the installation, maintenance and repair of commercial heating, air conditioning (HVAC) and facility electrical systems to insure proper operation in all City facilities.  This position supervises five (5) staff members (HVAC Technicians and Electricians), which includes assigning, reviewing, evaluating work performance, and determining training needs to ensure staff work is conducted safely and effectively; and oversees contractors.  In this role, the supervisor will also maintain positive customer relations, and resolves complaints and issues.

Requirements:

Any combination of education and experience that provides the knowledge and skills required is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills would be:

 

Seven years of journey level experience in commercial heating and air conditioning systems, maintenance and repair, that include at least two years of supervisory experience; a valid California Class C Drivers’ License; and a valid EPA Section 608 Universal Technician Certification from an approved U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Technician Certification Program is required.

An Associate’ s Degree in HVAC Technology or completion of a refrigeration/heating apprentice training program may be substituted for two years of the required journey level  experience.

In addition to the minimum requirements, the ideal candidate will: manage responsibilities with a concern for  personal safety  and public service; effectively deal with subordinate employees in assigning and monitoring work product; have experience with a variety of commercial/public facilities and their various systems; understanding of emerging technologies, energy conservation and operational efficiencies; have the ability to work as a team player.
