The City of Phoenix is seeking in its Water Services Director an innovative strategic thinker who is efficient, effective and responsive and a person who will move the Water Services Department forward for the future.

The salary range is being voted on by the City Council on February 6, 2013. At that time the salary range is expected to be $125,174 - $197,059. The starting salary is negotiable DOQ/E and a match with the desired attributes sought by the City. Benefit package plus reasonable, customary relocation expenses. Residency required within the City within 24 months after the date of hire, residency must be maintained.

The Water Services Director reports to a Deputy City Manager and is a vital member of the City’s management team. The Director is responsible for managing the largest enterprise department in the City with a current annual operating budget of $269.7 million and capital improvement budget of $351.2 million.

The City of Phoenix Water Services Department, as a government agency, is fee driven and thereby self-supporting and does not rely on taxes for its operation. A staff comprised of about 1,400 employees – trained engineers, technicians, and office and field service people – provides the Department’s services to customers within its 540-square mile service area.

The City of Phoenix is seeking a Water Services Director with proven experience at a director of assistant director level for a complex City or County Public Works/Water Department or public utility providing water service.

A working knowledge of western water law, the Law of the Colorado River, the Clean Water Act, Federal Reclamation Law, and the Arizona Groundwater Management Act is important. Further requirements for this position are in the Recruitment Brochure at http://www.mercergroupinc.com/.
