MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides skilled nursing care to inmates. Completes forms and reports. Performs the duties of a patient’s advocate. Serves as liaison between co-workers and supervisor; serves as liaison to other departments and outside agencies. Assists Physicians Assistants and Medical Doctors. Performs medical screenings of incoming inmates. Assists in the emergency care and treatment of inmates. Distributes medication to inmates. Performs other related duties as assigned.  Full-Time and PRN positions are available.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of all aspects of nursing care. Knowledge of patient care rights. Knowledge of department procedures, policies, and resources. Knowledge of emergency medical response and treatment. Knowledge of medications including dosages and side effects. Skill in the use of computers and other office equipment. Skill in problem solving and decision making. Skill in the assessment of medical conditions. Skill in operating standard office equipment including work related computer applications. Skill in oral and written communication.

MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree in Nursing, or completion of a diploma program in nursing from an accredited college or school of nursing; and one to two years of progressively responsible related experience; or any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, bending, crouching, or walking. The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, and must be able to distinguish between shades of color.  The employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease,  machinery with moving parts, contagious or infectious diseases, or irritating chemicals. The work requires the use of protective devices such as masks and gloves.
