9-1-1 Dispatcher Trainee Position Billings Fire Communications
Applications will be accepted on a continuous basis in order to maintain a sufficient applicant pool to fill vacancies as they occur.
PLEASE NOTE: The application and qualification requirements listed below must be met in order for the application to be forwarded to Fire Communications. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
This is a training position that will, upon successful completion of the (approximately 16 week) training period, lead to positions as both an emergency Call Taker and Dispatcher. Examples of daily work duties include receipt of emergency telephone calls; prioritization of emergency telephone calls; preparation and entry of official public safety reports in a Computer Aided Dispatch system; entry and retrieval of data from the Criminal Justice Information Network and the National Crime Information Center; radio procedure and operation in accordance with FCC regulations. The applicant must be able to think clearly in emergency situations; must have a clear, distinct voice to transmit information; must be able to sit for long periods of time; must be available for shift work; and must maintain a home phone. The Billings City-County Communication Center is a 24 hour a day operation; as a result, hours and days of work will vary. Upon successful completion of the training period, working overtime will be a common and frequent occurrence and is a condition of employment.
Starting Salary: $11.74 per hour plus benefits. Upon successful completion of the training program, hourly wage increases to $13.87. Current hourly wage tops out at $22.03 per hour. |

Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED
- Ability to type 40 WPM without error
- Accurate alpha numeric data entry at 97 keystrokes per minute

**Typing and alpha numeric data entry tests are available through the Montana Job Service Center. Applicants can contact 652-3080 to arrange for testing. Tests results must be current within 6 months. |
