Essential Job Function:
· Perform job in a professional manner, i.e. dress appropriately, arrive on time, stay until the end of your shift, attend all appropriate staff meetings, and staff orientation.
· Responsible to supervise and lead recreational summer activities with children, youth and young adults with disabilities in both the Camp Paha and PAT programs.
· Responsible for planning, monitoring, and evaluating age-appropriate programs and activities for campers and participants.
· Lead activities with a positive and enthusiastic attitude.
· Provide well-planned activities specific to your appropriate activity area and adapt activities so that campers of all ability levels can participate.
· Attend and participate in pre-camp training and regular staff meetings.
· Provide leadership for other staff as designated or directed by the Administration Team.
· Responsible for supporting the coordination of Friday In Camp Fun Days and other special events as directed.
· Work with campers, participants and staff of all ability levels in a caring, consistent, and non-judgmental fashion.
· Responsible to work cooperatively as a team member with other staff.
· Responsible to prepare activity lesson plans in a timely manner and submit those plans to the Assistant Director for Volunteers and On-site Programs by the designated time.
· Responsible for the care and use of program equipment and supplies, including those items used in specific specialty areas as well as those used by multiple areas.
· Responsible for making sure the materials necessary for the activities planned are ordered and in stock.
· Provide help to all of the staff with ideas of activities that they may use with their campers during group room time or group down time.
· Serve as a role model for campers, participants and staff by being caring, sharing, honest, enthusiastic, compassionate, and good sports.
· Assist staff with the physical, social and emotional needs of the campers. This may include feeding and helping with other personal needs.
· Report directly to the Assistant Director for Volunteers and On-site Programming.
· Abide by and enforce the RISE program’s “No Isolated Moments” policy where, when one or more campers are present, there must be at least 2 staff present as well (at minimum; see ratio requirements above).
· Follow all American Camping Association (ACA) accreditation and Child Care License standards as set forth by RISE Coordinator and those respective agencies.
· Be familiar with City of Lakewood policies and procedures and adhere to those procedures.
· Other related duties as assigned.
Specific Job Functions
· Report directly to the Assistant Director for Volunteers and On-site Programming.
· Develop and plan activities relative to your specific activity area.
· Prepare lesson plans regarding activities in your specific activity area and submit those to the Assistant Director for Volunteers and On-site Programming for review in a timely manner.
· Manage and procure supplies as needed for your specific activity area as well as group activity areas, as coordinated by the Assistant Director for Volunteers and On-site Programming.
· Develop activities appropriate to and in sync with PAT program goals, including incorporating elements of skill building and education in to activities.
· Assist PAT groups with developing and planning for Transition Field Trips.
· Support skill development (through activities) in both the Camp Paha and PAT programs.
· Effectively utilize planning time for planning-related tasks. This may include submitting measurable work output (such as lesson plans, etc) at the end of said times.
· Be prepared to direct staff assisting the setup of your program area every morning.
· Implement planned activities and modify them as needed to suit group needs.
· Adapt activities as needed so that campers of all ability levels can participate.
· Evaluate programs for appropriateness and quality as directed by the Assistant Director for Volunteers and On-site Programming.
· Assist in the development of Friday On-site Fun Days with other Activity Specialists, the Assistant Director for Volunteers and On-site Programming as well as the rest of the Administration Team.
