BASIC FUNCTION:


The Building Maintenance Custodian is responsible for performing general maintenance and custodial work which

includes lifting, setting up staging, dance floors, tables and chairs and for performing related work as required. Work requires lifting and is performed on a varying work schedule, which may include nights, weekends and holidays. The Building Maintenance Custodian works under the supervision of the Civic Center Manager.

Description:

 

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

1. Sweep, mop, buff and refinish hard-surface floors.

2. Vacuum and shampoo carpeted floors.

3. Dust and/or polish furniture, woodwork, mini-blinds and other surfaces.

4. Clean meeting rooms, kitchen service areas, restrooms and wash windows.

5. Empty trash containers.

6. Perform litter control inside building and outside on the premises.

7. Coordinate with Civic Center staff and event organizers in moving furniture and setting up and taking down stages, dance floors, tables and chairs for special functions, parties, meetings and activities.

8. Clean and paint walls.

9. Maintain inventories of cleaning products, paint, light bulbs, fixtures, electrical parts and all furniture and equipment.

10. Perform light diagnostic work on HVAC systems, fountains and other mechanical equipment.

11. Serve as building facility monitor.

12. Perform general maintenance duties as required and other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Knowledge:

 

General knowledge of various equipment, materials, and products used in janitorial operations and the maintenance of facilities.

 

Skills:

 

Position requires: effective written and oral communication skills; ability to maintain an effective working relationship with supervisors, managers of events, civic and community groups, contractors, lessees, employees and the general public. Incumbent should be skilled in the use of various hand and power tools.

 

Education:

 

High School Graduate or GED.

 

Experience:

 

Six months experience in janitorial and general maintenance duties.

 

NOTE: Any work-related experience resulting in acceptable proficiency levels in the above

 

Minimum Qualifications is an acceptable substitute for the above-specified education and

 

experience requirements.

 

Licenses and Certificates:

 

Texas Class C driver’s license within three (3) months of employment.
