FIRE CHIEF
Organization: City of McAllen
Summary:

This position is the Administrator of all related fire department operations.  In addition, this position coordinates Emergency Management operations for the City.

Description:
Essential Job Functions
  1. Plans, directs, coordinates, delegates, supervises all activities of the fire department in an effort to assure that emergencies of any kind occurring in the community or fire call jurisdiction areas outside the community are served properly. 2. Assures that fire department personnel are well trained and readily available to respond to emergencies and assures that facilities, apparatus, equipment, and tools are well maintained. 3. Develops rules, regulations, policies, and standard operating procedures to provide for direction and control of fire department operations. 4. Periodically conducts inspections of fire department facilities, apparatus, and equipment. 5. Serves as Emergency Management Coordinator.  (Civil Defense Coordinator) 6. Develops and maintains a fixed budget for all related Fire Department operations.
Requirements:
Minimum Requirements
  Bachelor's Degree in fire science, public administration or equivalent.  Requires Advanced Fire Fighter Certificate issued by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection Standards and Education.  Successful completion of the Executive Fire Officer Program of the National Fire Academy preferable.
Requires no less than 5 years experience in a chief officer level supervision of a fire department.
