Qualifications: Knowledge of the City codes and ordinances; knowledge of principles and practices of building construction; knowledge of building, plumbing, mechanical, gas, electrical codes; ability to interpret technical designs and blueprints; ability to enforce codes; computer literate for the input of all documentation pertaining to building permitting process; ability to work with the general public; ability to communicate orally and in writing; skill to use standard equipment and testing devices; skill to effect defects in building constructions and code violations.
Education/Experience: Required: High School diploma or equivalent; supplemented by five (5) years construction trades experience in at least one (1) of the critical disciplines (i.e., electrical, mechanical, plumbing, structural); up to five (5) years post-secondary education in the field of construction or a related field may be substituted for field experience.
(A comparable amount of training, education or experience can be substituted for the minimum qualifications.)
Licenses/Certifications: Must possess at least one (1) standard state licenses or have the ability to obtain, at least one (1) provisional state license which must be Building or 1 & 2 Family Dwelling Inspector; Must be able to study, test and obtain state standard licenses prior to the expiration date of the provisional state license. |
