To be considered for a City of Owensboro Firefighter position, you must successfully complete ALL of the following:

MANDATORY Written Exam: Sun., May 5, 2013 at 2:00pm OR Mon., May 6, 2013 at 6:30pm (hold both dates); and, if you pass, then

MANDATORY Oral exam, between May 20 - May 31, 2013; and, if you successfully complete, then

MANDATORY Further Evaluation (e.g., Background screening, interview, etc.), dates to be determined, and if contingently offered a position, then

CPAT: Beginning January 1, 2013, all Kentucky career firefighter candidates are required to undergo a physical ability test (i.e., “CPAT”). The Kentucky Fire Commission administers this testing. We are fortunate that in 2013, CPAT testing will be offered locally in Owensboro for those applying for the position of City of Owensboro Firefighter. Only qualified applicants meeting our requirements will be admitted for CPAT testing. If you are not available to attend the Owensboro CPAT, you may inquire about the possibility of participating in the Northern Kentucky (Winchester location) testing held between Feb. 23 and April 13 (no guarantee). CPAT DEADLINE: You must obtain a valid CPAT card prior to Sunday, May 5, 2013 to be admitted to the written exam. Further information about the CPAT schedule can be found at:

The CPAT requirements will be held in Owensboro, KY, on the following dates (HOLD all dates, all day):

March 16, 8am, Orientation (MANDATORY)

March 30, 8am, 1st Practice (MANDATORY unless waived pursuant to CPAT requirements)

April 20, 8am, 2nd Practice (MANDATORY unless waived pursuant to CPAT requirements)

May 4, 8am, Final Exam (“CPAT”) (MANDATORY)

Valid CPAT card may be accepted in lieu of above CPAT process. Valid CPAT card REQUIRED for admittance to written exam. If CPAT is valid at time of written exam, but expires before date of hire, you will be required to renew it prior to any further consideration.
