The County of Yuba is currently recruiting for the position of Public Health Nurse I/II in the Health and Human Services Department. The Public Health Nurse I/II provides the full range of public health nursing services including teaching, health assessment, and counseling services in homes, clinics, schools and community centers in connection with the prevention and control of diseases and adverse health conditions.
The current vacancy is in the nurse home-visitation program using Targeted Case Management (TCM). Although, home visits are primarily with the maternal-infant population, services to all family members are available and based on the needs of the community. The program includes case management of helping clients overcome barriers to accessing needed health, social, psychological, and educational needs.
In addition to TCM services, Public Health Nurse I/II would also provide the same families with health education, nursing assessment, developmental screening, counseling, and consultation on diagnoses or medical regimen. Collaboration with community partners and maternity ward nursing rounds, as well as, immunization administration and other basic clinic services are additional responsibilities of the position.
Knowledge is required of the principles, practices and techniques of providing public health nursing services including diagnosis, treatment, control and prevention of communicable and chronic illness, nutrition, normal growth and development, including aging and health guidelines for all age groups; principles and practices of health education, counseling, interviewing, instruction and history taking; procedures involved in promoting maternal ;and child health and Information and treatment techniques related to symptoms, treatment alternatives, drug properties and interactions, and preventive health-care measures. Skills in performing nursing assessments and specified diagnostic tests and instructing others in continuing required treatments; assessing normal health and behavior and developing, implementing and managing effective treatment plans; and communicating clear and accurate information regarding clients to physicians and other health providers is needed.
Ability to exercise initiative and sound judgment and make appropriate recommendations; assess and prioritize multiple tasks, projects and demands and communicate and work effectively with public health staff, health professionals, and clients is essential. |
The minimum and preferred requirements are listed below. Minimum I level: Graduation from a four year college or university with major coursework in nursing and possession of a license as a Registered Nurse and a Public Health Nurse certificate.
Minimum II level: In addition to the above requirements, one year of experience equivalent to the County’s class of Public Health Nurse I.
Special Requirements: Must successfully complete an extensive and thorough background investigation which includes Live Scan fingerprinting.
Possess license as a Registered Nurse and certification as a Public Health Nurse in the State of California
Working Conditions: Work in a standard office or clinic setting; may require exposure to sources of potentially contagious pathogens in the course of field duties, while wearing personal protective equipment; may be required to work extended hours, attend meetings outside of normal business hours and be available for call back in emergency situations. |
