Centrally located along Florida’s West Coast on the Gulf of Mexico, about 30 miles north of Tampa and 50 miles west of Orlando, Pasco County is within a nine-county region referred to as the “Nature Coast” and a four-county metropolitan statistical area which includes Tampa, St. Petersburg and Clearwater. The County is the twelfth most populous county in Florida with 466,533 permanent residents and encompasses approximately 868 square miles. The County is home to six incorporated municipalities, the largest of which has approximately 15,000 residents. With more than 20 miles of shoreline, hilly terrain, and over 100,000 acres of pristine wilderness, Pasco County remains committed to managing growth, encouraging development and preserving its history, natural beauty, and many amenities.
The County has a Commission-Administrator form of government in which five Commissioners are elected at large to four-year staggered terms with no term limits. The County has approximately 2,000 full-time employees and an FY2012/2013 total budget of $1 billion and an adopted General Fund operating budget of $230 million. The County Administrator reports to the Board of County Commissioners, serves as the chief executive responsible for the day-to-day operations, and oversees the Chief Assistant County Administrator, currently four Assistant County Administrators and numerous department heads.
A County Administrator who demonstrates professional management and leadership skills and who is approachable, transparent, and accountable is desired. A minimum of seven years of executive management experience as a City/County Manager or Assistant City/County Manager in an agency of similar complexities and issues is sought. Experience in a reputable high growth community which has achieved strategic, sustainable growth and development is of interest. A Bachelor’s degree in Public/Business Administration, Economics, Finance, Planning or a related field is required; a Master’s degree is preferred.
