Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has an exciting opportunity for a Human Resources Generalist to join the Salem District HR Team. This HR Generalist position directly supports the District operation by providing expert consultation, guidance, direction and leadership to the management and staff of the Salem District in all areas of human resources field; executing quality human resources services in talent acquisition, employee relations, benefits support, position classification, compensation, training, and policy interpretation; ensures compliance with legal requirement, advises managers on performance planning, evaluation and discipline. The successful candidate will work well with diverse audiences and customers from every level within the Agency and organization providing timely customer service to district employees and department management, the general public, other State agencies and private sector agencies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of human resources principles and experience in human resoruces practices including but not limited to classification, compensation, salary administration, benefits, employee relations, training, talent acquisition, and customer service. Knowledge of Federal and State laws, regulations and practices to include FLSA and affirmative action. Knowledge of HR record keeping principles, PC operations, HR information systems.
Must have strong organizational skills with demonstrated competency in setting priorities and achieving multiple deadlines. Ability to analyze data and make sound recommendations and develop logical conclusions. Ability to communicate effectively one on one and presenting to large groups. Proven ability to contribute positively as a team member. Skill in assessing and meeting internal and external customer needs. Must be willing to engage in infrequent in-state overnight travel.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's/Master degree from an accredited college or university in Human Resources Management, Business, Public Administration, Organization Development, or related field preferred. Progressively responsible experience in human resources or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities and competencies. Considerable professional experience in Human Resources with demonstrated experience working across multiple HR functional areas, such as compensation, benefits, employee relations, performance management, training, etc. Professional certification (PHR/SPHR/CCP/CBP) is desired. Will be required to work to support emergency operations outside of normal work schedule.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
This position requires a fingerprint based criminal background check. This position requires a DMV record check. |
