The Sheriff's Department is accepting applications to fill a contract position for an Automotive Technology Instructor for the Division of Inmate Services at Glen Helen Rehabilitation Center.

Description:

Automotive Technology provides basic instruction to prepare the adult learner with skills for entry-level positions in the automotive industry including safety, basic hand tools, specialty tools, and automotive equipment including but not limited to a tire machine, wheel balancer, brake lathe, wheel alignment and equipment for maintenance and service of the vehicle.

This position is a contract position to work full-time, 8 hours per day, Monday – Friday.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

• Background: Applicants must not have been convicted of a felony. Prior to appointment, applicants will be fingerprinted and must pass an extensive background investigation.
• Incumbents will participate in the PST Deferred Compensation Retirement Plan.

Requirements:

Education: A valid California Designated Subjects Career Technical Education Teaching Credential authorizing teaching in Automotive Technology or provide formal recommendation from a Designated Subject Career Technical Education approved program sponsor prior to employment.

Experience: Automotive industry experience with skills in maintenance, service, basic collision repair and refinishing, and diagnostic skills in relationship to vehicle performance.

License: A valid California Driver License.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

The following are highly desired:

Experience teaching career preparation courses in automotive technology
Experience as an ASE certified technician
Knowledge of maintenance, service and repair, drive train and axles, suspension and steering, brakes, engine performance, and basic collision repair and refinishing
Currently hold at least one ASE certificate and have the knowledge to guide this program to NATEF certification.
