Created by voter initiative in 1972, the District has permanently preserved over 62,000 acres of mountain, foothill, and bayland open space, creating 26 open space preserves. The District covers an area of 550 square miles and includes 17 cities and adjoining unincorporated areas in San Mateo,Santa Clara, and a small portion of Santa Cruz counties.
Appointed by the District’s General Manager, this position will oversee public information, media relations, community outreach, volunteer and docent programs and state and federal legislative affairs. The Public Affairs Department has a staff of seven and annual budget of $1.8 million. The Public Affairs Manager will bring a solid understanding of legislation and legislative affairs, preferably with experience working with California State legislators.
The District is seeking an individual with at least five years of management experience in public affairs, community outreach, or a related area. The selected candidate will possess strong knowledge of public policy and a clear understanding of the priorities and methods for supporting a chief executive and elected body. A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in public relations, communications, business administration or a related field is required. Most importantly, the candidate selected will be dedicated to public service and to the mission of the District.
