ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Plans and performs daily work activities; ensuring accurate assignment completion. Performs installation and technical maintenance operations, repair and replacement of traffic signalization, traffic control boxes, traffic loop systems, street lights and school flashers.
Inspects contractor work, checking for accuracy, codes compliance and state regulations.
Responsible for assuring conformation of all City traffic signalization with the Municipal Uniform Traffic Control Device Manual on traffic signal operations.
Assists the Traffic/Transportation Engineer with plan review; evaluates and makes recommendations on traffic and signalization improvements projects.
Performs preventative maintenance to electronic equipment, microprocessors, equipment, and controller cabinets; interprets schematics and wire diagrams for traffic signal repair and component troubleshooting.
Attends safety classes for continuing education of equipment and tools. Responsible for ensuring that all working conditions are safe.
Handles and responds to traffic signal issues, both orally and in writing; resolves concerns and problems; takes immediate action when emergency situations are presented; remains on-call 24 hours a day for emergency response.
Maintains street lights and signal repairs most under live current. Performs electrical duties as needed at the Street Department.
Performs controller programming, computer programming, traffic computer programming and programming of variable message signs.
Compiles maintenance records and generates daily log system, updates school flasher report and reviews traffic signal timing.
Operates and utilizes a variety of medium and light equipment, machinery and tools required for maintenance and installation of traffic signalization devices, street lights and school flashers.
Provides assistance and gathers pertinent information in preparing the annual budget for the traffic division.
