Under the direct supervision of a licensed Professional Engineer, the Utility Permit Coordinator is responsible for the engineering review and approval of utility permit applications (from utilities seeking to perform work within County-owned right-of-way), to ensure compliance with applicable Ordinance. Responsible for the issuance and tracking of utility permits, including an on-site inspection of the work performed (to ensure compliance with the permit and approved plans). Ensures compliance with plans and specifications and performs general project management.
As Utility Permit Coordinator, this individual also leads Lake County’s Utility Coordination Council, a mechanism providing for inter-agency communication and project coordination, as defined under Illinois Statute. Organizes and leads project-specific utility coordination meetings pertaining to LCDOT public roadway improvement projects.
This position will require the use of engineering drawings, field and office equipment while interpreting field survey data. You will need to communicate effectively with internal and external customers and exercise sound professional engineering judgment while securing the cooperation of construction contractors and others. Knowledge of modern principles and practices of civil engineering as applied to the construction of various highway projects will be needed to take local charge of moderately difficult engineering projects and to obtain adherence to plans and specifications. Mathematical computations and moderately difficult engineering projects will be as needed.
Ten years of civil engineering experience and college level course work OR Two years of Professional Engineering experience and possession of a license denoting registration as an Engineer-in-Training under the Illinois Professional Engineering Act.
