The Orange County Sanitation District (OCSD) is currently looking to fill the role of an Accountant.
Under direct supervision, the Accountant performs a variety of routine and technical accounting duties in support of the District's financial, auditing, budgeting, accounting, and reporting systems; and provides assistance to higher level accounting staff. This position is primarily responsible for maintaining and reconciling general ledger accounts including assets, liabilities, net position, revenue, and expenses; preparing monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial reports; preparing journal entries, bank reconciliations, budget transfers, and other daily general ledger activities; analyzing and interpreting accounts, methods, and financial records; and providing technical accounting assistance to others contacted in the course of work. The Accountant is also responsible for maintaining the chart of accounts; updating policies and procedures; participating in the preparation of the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) and annual audit schedules for external auditors; responding to questions; and performing other related duties as assigned.
The position requires a Bachelor’s degree from a college or university with major course work in accounting, finance, or a related field; and one (1) year of related accounting or finance experience. The ideal candidate will have a working knowledge of generally accepted principles, practices and methods of public and governmental accounting and financing; techniques and methods of general ledger maintenance and financial reporting; and the ability to apply and interpret Federal, State, and local laws relevant to the assigned area of responsibility. The person in this position must have excellent verbal and written communication skills; the ability to set priorities and meet critical deadlines, and to provide complete and concise financial statements and reports. Computer proficiency is required, including familiarity with spreadsheets, databases and word processing software. Additional requirements for this position include proven ability to apply critical thinking and analytical skills in completing assignments; and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Desired qualifications include prior work experience in local government utilities, and familiarity working with J.D. Edwards OneWorld financial information system.

Hiring Salary Range*: $70,096 - $77,292/Year
