The City of San José is searching for a responsible and dynamic individual with strong leadership and communication skills to fill this role. Success in this position will require an extensive understanding of emerging sustainability issues and trends. Passion for the industry is key. The Environmental Services Program Manager position in the Sustainability and Compliance Division (SCD) will be responsible for providing programmatic and operational leadership for the Sustainability, Policy, and Advocacy group. This group is responsible for leadership on key Green Vision Goals for the City, including energy efficiency and renewable energy, overall coordination of the Green Vision, legislative and regulatory advocacy on state and federal environmental issues, and long term policy development. Specific duties include: oversee energy efficiency and renewable energy programs, including Silicon Valley Energy Watch; facilitate Green Vision coordination and annual report; track, analyze and develop positions on environmental regulation and legislation; and collaborate actively with local, regional, and state partners to leverage resources for advocacy and policy development.
The mission of the City’s Environmental Services Department (ESD) is to deliver world-class utility services and programs to improve our health, environment, and economy. The 500-member department includes the delivery of garbage and recycling services; wastewater management and recycled water; stormwater management and watershed protection; drinking water for a portion of San Jose; and energy and sustainability programs. Within these broad services are robust and cutting edge programs that place the City of San José on the forefront of sustainably-managed utility services.
- Any combination of training and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in environmental science, environmental engineering, public administration, or a closely related field
- Six (6) years of increasingly responsible experience in overseeing and administering complex environmental programs, including four (4) years of progressively responsible supervisory experience.
