OCSD is currently seeking a Materials Control Supervisor.
Under general direction of the Contract & Purchasing Manager, the Materials Control Supervisor assigns, reviews, and participates in the work of staff responsible for providing inventory control and warehouse services for the Orange County Sanitation District (OCSD) staff at its two facilities. Specifically, this position is responsible for identifying operational needs and allocating resources accordingly to meet inventory issuance demands in a planning and scheduling environment. The Materials Control Supervisor manages the cycle counting program and uniform program; ensures the effective use of divisional resources; directs the work of staff to ensure timely and effective completion of tasks and daily responsibilities; provides highly complex and responsible support to management; and sets goals for improving warehouse operations and staff productivity. This position is also responsible for organizing, planning and overseeing day-to-day warehouse inventory; shipping and receiving activities; disposal of surplus property and asset tracking; maintaining accurate records; and ensuring adherence to OCSD’s policies and procedures. This position will train, monitor and audit employee performance, address any deficiencies and implement disciplinary actions as needed. This position may also participate in the preparation and administration of the divisional budget; establish guidelines for the replenishment and disposition of materials and supplies; assume responsibility for all discrepancies in inventories; manage supplier contracts and relationships; coordinate the bidding and awarding of contracts for the assigned area; provide recommendations to management; and perform other related duties as assigned.
The position requires a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in business or public administration, or a related field; and six (6) years of increasingly responsible inventory control and warehouse experience, which includes a minimum of two (2) years as a lead or supervisor. Must possess or have the ability to obtain the Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM) designation from the Association for Operations Management or other related certification. The ideal candidate must have direct work experience performing the following duties: inventory control in a planning and scheduling environment; shipping and receiving; disposal of surplus property and asset tracking. The person in this position must have proven ability to supervise, motivate and develop staff; and to apply critical thinking and analytical skills to identify problems, formulate solutions, and make sound recommendations to achieve operational efficiencies. This position involves a high level of independence and decision-making related to inventory control and warehouse operations. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills are required; as well as the ability to effectively plan and schedule the activities and services of the warehouse and inventory control operations. The individual in this position will be detail-oriented, highly organized, and be able to communicate clearly and concisely orally and in writing; and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Computer proficiency is required; including familiarity with Microsoft Office software applications such as Word, Excel and Outlook. Desired qualifications include prior experience working for a local government utility or municipality; and working knowledge of a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).

Hiring Salary Range: $96,616 - $106,516/Year
