The Santa Barbara County Association of Governments is a regional planning agency serving Santa Barbara County and the eight incorporated cities within the county. SBCAG’s mission is to provide collaborative leadership, planning, projects and services to address regional and local needs to improve mobility and promote sustainable communities in Santa Barbara County.
SBCAG is seeking to fill one Transportation Planner position with a capable, detail-oriented individual with solid technical, planning and core skills, who would like to work in Santa Barbara County as part of a close-knit planning team. Starting placement as a Transportation Planner l, ll or Senior will be based on skills and experience.
Typical Tasks and Duties:
Under the general direction of the Deputy Director of Planning, this position may be assigned duties in the following areas:
Analyze and prepare reports and correspondence on issues relevant to the division; investigate transportation problems and make recommendations for solutions; serve as project manager and author of technical reports on complex transportation issues; prepare short- and long-range transportation plans and studies; prepare grant applications and provide technical support for applications being developed by others; provide technical assistance to local agencies in designing, implementing, and monitoring transit systems; review local programs and projects for consistency with regional transportation plans; analyze potential emission reductions; maintain public records; present reports and recommendations to the agency executive team, the SBCAG Board of Directors, and technical advisory committees at public meetings; represent the agency at local and state meetings and conferences; work with citizen groups and officials regarding transit issues and proposals.
Transportation Planner l ($61,104 to $74,592)
Any combination of training, education and experience which would provide the required knowledge and abilities; a Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university with a degree in Public Administration, Urban or Regional Planning, Transportation Planning or Engineering or related field is desirable. Must be able to perform complex, accurate calculations and data analysis, prepare correspondence and technical reports as well as establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Strong writing and communication skills are essential. Possession of a valid California driver’s license is required.
Transportation Planner ll ($70,956 to $86,628)
In addition to the aforementioned requirements for Planner l above, the requirements for Planner ll include two or more years of progressively responsible professional experience.
Senior Transportation Planner ($78,792 to $ 96,192)
In addition to the requirements for Planner ll above, the requirements for the Senior Planner include four or more years of related professional experience and a demonstrated ability to serve as a subject matter specialist and mentor to other transportation planners while performing complex assignments under minimum supervision.
