OCSD is currently looking to fill the role of two (2) Senior Mechanics – Collections.
Under general supervision, the Senior Mechanic performs technical duties and responsibilities in the maintenance, repair, service, and troubleshooting of the Orange County Sanitation District's (OCSD) sewer systems including equipment, pump stations, and related facilities; performs collection facilities duties which include cleaning sewer lines, manholes and wet wells; entering confined spaces and performing light to heavy construction at various District locations; performs preventive and corrective maintenance on assigned equipment, and operates a variety of vehicles, hand and power tools and power equipment. The Senior Mechanic may be required to work in heavily congested street traffic where traffic flow controls and diversions in accordance with established District procedures must be followed; and communications with the public regarding activities performed at pump stations or regarding odor complaints. This position is responsible for performing preventative maintenance tasks such as inspecting, cleaning, adjusting, repairing, and replacing parts and equipment. Additionally, the Senior Mechanic may be assigned to respond to a variety of wastewater emergencies on a standby shift.
The successful candidates will possess an educational level equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by specialized training in the areas of mechanical equipment maintenance and repair and three years of increasingly responsible experience applying preventative and corrective maintenance skills on pump station and sewer line equipment. The ability to perform strenuous physical labor, and to troubleshoot, repair and maintain equipment related to wastewater main cleaning is required. Effective communication, both verbally and in writing, and the ability to provide a high level of customer service dealing with public, vendors, contractors and District staff is essential. The successful candidates may be required to perform standby duties. Possession of a valid Grade II Collection System Maintenance Certificate from the California Water Environment Association (CWEA) as well as a valid California class B driver’s license with air brakes and tanker certificate/endorsement is required.
