This is an outstanding opportunity to become Executive Director of a progressive municipal organization that is highly respected. The North Carolina League of Municipalities (NCLM) Board of Directors is seeking a business and results-oriented leader to join the team. The current Executive Director is retiring and will be leaving after 17 years with NCLM.
The Executive Director should be able to assess the current state and municipal environment and interact with constituent groups and federal entities. The successful candidate will likely also need to evaluate the internal operations of NCLM to ensure the organization remains best prepared to serve its members.
The successful candidate will serve as internal and external spokesperson for NCLM focused on developing the outreach programs, messaging, educational resources and public awareness campaigns that define NCLM and its constituents. The Executive Director is responsible for leading a talented staff in the overall development, planning and management of programs, research, conferences, and other activities in addition to the public policy and risk management efforts.
The NCLM is a 501(c) 4 non-partisan federation of municipal governments in the State of North Carolina.
The starting salary will be market competitive depending upon the experience and qualifications of the successful candidates. In addition, a competitive benefits package will be provided to the successful candidates. Reasonable relocation expenses will be paid by NCLM.
A Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Political Science, Business Administration or a related field is required. A Master’s degree or equivalent is preferred. Other professional degrees will also be considered. Also required is 10-15 years experience in the public policy arena, with relevant public administration, membership association, or combined business and public administration experience. Some experience as a lobbyist would be helpful.
