The Orange County Sanitation District (OCSD) is currently looking to fill the role of a Risk Manager.
This position will function as an important member of OCSD's leadership team. In doing so, this person will provide leadership, vision, and guidance to the Risk Management Division staff in accordance with the District's Mission, Vision, and Core Values.
Under administrative direction, the Risk Manager will effectively plan, direct, manage, supervise, and coordinate the activities and operations of the Risk Management Division. This position reports to the Director of Finance and Administrative Services, and is responsible for the development, implementation and administration of risk management and safety and health programs.
Programs will include organization-wide safety and health programs and employee safety training, emergency response, disaster preparedness, security, risk reduction, and insurance programs including self-insured and self-administered liability, workers’ compensation and claims programs.
The Risk Manager will plan, direct, integrate, and review all aspects of risk management/loss control programs; identify major areas of risk and risk control; evaluate, recommend and implement safety and health directives; evaluate alternative methods of risk financing; manage and monitor all property and liability claims; represent the District in dealing with other governmental agencies and entities; and negotiate and resolve sensitive issues.
Other responsibilities assigned to this position include: managing and implementing priorities, goals, and objectives for the division in alignment with OCSD's Strategic Plan; training, evaluating and mentoring professional and administrative staff; providing policy oversight and technical assistance to staff; working with employees to correct deficiencies and implementing discipline and termination procedures; participating in the development and administration of the division’s budget; evaluating service delivery methods, and recommending appropriate service and staffing levels; serving on a variety of boards and committees; attending and participating in professional group meetings; keeping abreast of new trends, laws and regulations; preparing and presenting clear and concise reports and other documents relating to area of responsibility; and other related duties as assigned.
Education, Certifications and Experience
This position requires a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Business or Public Administration, Finance, Risk Management, or a related field; and eight (8) years increasingly responsible experience in risk management and/or insurance; including two (2) years of administrative and supervisory responsibility. Desired qualifications include: a Master’s degree and certification as an Associate in Risk Management (ARM), California Self-Insurance Administrator Certificate, or Certified Safety Professional (CSP)

The Risk Manager will have a strong commitment and track record of working cooperatively with those contacted in the course of work, and will be a self-assured individual with the ability to exercise a high degree of common sense, sound judgment, and be comfortable at making frequent public presentations.

Hiring Salary Range*: $106,455 - $143,716/Year
