Over the past half century, San José has transformed from an agricultural community to a global center of technology and innovation. With 5,400 full-time employees, the City of San José operates under a council-manager form of government and is a full-service Charter City. Code Enforcement is a division of the City’s Planning, Building and Code Enforcement Department.
Reporting to the Director of the department, the Deputy Director leads, mentors and supervises a staff of 50, represents the division internally and externally, develops and maintains the Division’s budget, and leads strategic planning efforts.
Requires a bachelor’s in public administration, business administration, civil engineering or related field. It is desired that the candidate have five years of experience working in similar issues with five years of supervisory experience. Continued education in code enforcement and experience in managing a landfill or recycling operation oversight as a Local Enforcement agency also desired. It is strongly preferred that the selected candidate live within a reasonable commuting distance from San José City Hall.
