San Diego State University (SDSU) is the oldest and largest higher education institution in the San Diego region and is in the top seven percent of higher education research institutions in the U.S.
SDSU is now seeking a Director of Public Safety and Chief of Police to oversee the Department of Public Safety’s 24 sworn police officers and 50 professional staff members.
Candidates must possess: Class C or higher California Driver’s License and satisfactory driving record; bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university; a California POST Basic Certification or the ability to obtain such with one year of hiring date; demonstrated ability to qualify for and complete the California Basic Course Waiver Process or requalification process within one year of hire; at least ten years of progressively responsible law enforcement experience, with at least three years in a supervisory role; and demonstrated successful fiscal experience managing a complex operating budget of $4 million or more.
