The City of Yuma is a council-manager form of government. The mayor and six City Council members are elected at-large to serve four-year staggered terms. The city has a number of appointed boards and commissions that serve the City legislative body in an advisory capacity. The City Administrator is the Chief Executive Officer for the City. This position is appointed by the City Council, and serves at their pleasure.

The City of Yuma currently employs 1,200 full-time, part-time, and seasonal employees. There are 11 City departments who are committed to services for the community.
