Although prior experience in law enforcement is an important factor, ultimately we are looking for someone who has a strong desire to work in a small town law enforcement environment, common sense and a good sense of humor. The Lakeport Police Department is offering reimbursement for academy training costs!
Our successful candidate for the attached recruitment may be eligible for up to $6,000 reimbursement in qualified expenses. Payments are made incrementally at the time of hire, completion of field training, completion of probation, completion of two years of service, completion of three years of service. An employment contract agreeing to three years of service will be required.
If you have successfully completed a POST-certified police academy within the past two years, you may be qualified!

Finalists then must successfully pass a thorough background investigation, medical, polygraph, and psychological examinations. Fingerprints are required. •Academy Graduate: At time of appointment, candidates must have successfully completed aCalifornia P.O.S.T. approved Basic Academy within the last 3 years. The P.O.S.T. Basic AcademyCertificate must be submitted at the time of application.
•Academy in Process: Applicants must be currently enrolled at a California Peace OfficerStandards and Training (POST) approved Police Academy and must graduate prior to hire.
•All Candidates: Must have a high school diploma or equivalent; possess or be eligible for a validFirst Aid and CPR Certificate; be at least twenty-one years old at time of appointment; weightproportional to height; uncorrected vision of 20/100 or better in both eyes and must becorrected to 20/30; normal color vision; possess sufficient strength and agility necessary toperform the duties of a Police Officer; possess a valid California Driver’s License at time ofappointment; and live within a reasonable response time of the Police Department.
