The Development Services Department is committed to providing creative, proactive and innovative service responsive to the needs of the City’s residential and business communities for the purpose of promoting a higher quality of life through Planning, Building and Safety, Housing, Economic Development, and Code Enforcement. This is a department head position that will oversee a staff of 28 responsible for assisting business owners/developers through the review and approval process; developing a comprehensive, long-term development plan and improved land use; eliminating areas of urban blight and underlying causes; promoting quality development and rehabilitating existing structures, and encouraging business growth/development that creates employment opportunities and increases the City’s tax base to support and enhance municipal services. The ideal candidate will be a strong and committed leader that will foster creativity and innovation; promote change to enhance efficiencies, and effectively identify and utilize the talents and leadership qualities of staff within the department. The successful candidate will facilitate the completion of the City’s General Plan update to include historic preservation and an exciting future linear park that spans the railroad, and will oversee current projects underway including a large retail project and a commercial/assisted living facility project.

A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in urban planning, economics, public administration or a related field; and seven years of increasingly responsible managerial experience including significant administrative personnel management responsibilities within planning, building, housing and economic development and code enforcement functions.
