About the California State University Maritime Academy: Established in 1929, California State University Maritime Academy, a campus of the California State University, is the only degree-granting maritime academy on the West Coast. Located on the scenic Vallejo waterfront, the campus serves a student population of approximately 1000 undergraduates and 50 graduate students. Cal Maritime offers seven baccalaureate degrees in Business Administration, International Strategy and Security, Facilities Engineering Technology, Marine Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Marine Transportation, and Oceanography. The undergraduate curriculum includes licensing programs for future merchant marine, coast guard, and naval reserve officers. Major Responsibilities : Corporate, Foundation & Major Gifts Identify, engage, solicit, and steward alumni, friends, corporations and foundations in California and other assigned geographic areas who have the capacity to make major gifts to the CSU Maritime Academy. Create new funding opportunities from corporations and foundations. Secure planned, deferred, and outright or major gifts of $10,000 or more, with an emphasis on gifts of $25,000 or more. Participate in the cultivation and management process of moving gifts to closure in support of the University’s institutional fundraising priorities. This includes developing initiatives aimed at growing the pipeline of major gift prospects. Build and maintain a portfolio of 120 prospects and donors including: identification and engagement with individuals, executives and officers of organizations; securing invitations to submit proposals; managing the solicitation process; and the maintenance of effective relationships with donors and other key stakeholders. Maintain an average of 15 face-to-face visits per month including at least two solicitations per month. Work closely with CMAF board and Comprehensive Campaign volunteers. Write independently and deliver professional gift solicitation proposals and maintain current contact reports. Create annual strategies for corporations and foundations. Manage and report corporate and foundations gifts. Strategic Planning As a strategic partner, recommends, creates, and implements long and short-term strategic plan goals and operational plans for the annual giving and alumni programs. Ensures these goals align with and support the overall mission of the university. Motivates and encourages commitment to achievement of strategic plans. Effectively communicates the strategic initiatives. Accomplish strategic goals for the University, Division of University Advancement, and the annual giving programs. Other The Major Gifts Officer is part of the Cal Maritime University Advancement team and is expected to perform other duties related to the overall fundraising program including setting up donor and prospect visits for the President. Work collaboratively across the University, including senior leadership, deans and department heads to increase Cal Maritime’s donor presence and to leverage business development opportunities. Represent Cal Maritime at events and programs as required. Ensure that University Advancement is viewed as a service-oriented division of the University. Issues municipal court citations for violations to both the public and private sector regarding city ordinances, codes, etc. Testifies and presents evidence at court hearings. Performs research and investigative work in determining extent of violation and non-compliance, and in preparing cases for judicial process, to include photography of evidence. Use of professional knowledge to determine substandard structure conditions for consideration of the Building and Standards Commission. Investigates and resolves citizen complaints received concerning suspected/potential violations. Initiates towing of inoperable, illegally parked, and/or abandoned vehicles on private property through judicial orders for the abatement of public nuisances. Prepares Investigation and Abatement warrants for judicial signatures, and executes those warrants. Prepares, maintains, and files reports and records regarding activities, i.e., door hangers, electronic case files, inspection reports, incident reports, notices of violation, and citations. Responds to citizen inquiries both orally and in writing. Investigate and monitor construction activities for the purpose of checking permits, issuing citations or stop work orders until structures, premises, or property are brought to code. Performs follow up to ensure compliance. Files, makes copies, and prepares mailing of notifications and citations. Performs related work as directed. Comply with all written City policies and procedures. Adhere to assigned work schedule as outlined in City and department attendance policies and procedures. When assigned to Code Compliance Officer, Senior Duties of Code Compliance Officer carry over, in addition to: Assists the Code Enforcement Supervisor in prioritizing case assignments and is responsible for entering, routing, and assignment of cases to assigned staff within the Code Enforcement division. Issues municipal court citations for violations to both the public and private sector regarding city ordinances, codes, etc. Testifies and presents evidence at court hearings. Performs research and investigative work in determining extent of violation and non-compliance, and in preparing cases for judicial process, to include photography of evidence. Use of professional knowledge to determine substandard structure conditions for consideration of the Building and Standards Commission. Investigates and resolves citizen complaints received concerning suspected/potential violations. Initiates towing of inoperable, illegally parked, and/or abandoned vehicles on private property through judicial orders for the abatement of public nuisances. Prepares Investigation and Abatement warrants for judicial signatures, and executes those warrants. Prepares, maintains, and files reports and records regarding activities, i.e., door hangers, electronic case files, inspection reports, incident reports, notices of violation, and citations. Responds to citizen inquiries both orally and in writing. Investigate and monitor construction activities for the purpose of checking permits, issuing citations or stop work orders until structures, premises, or property are brought to code. Performs follow up to ensure compliance. Files, makes copies, and prepares mailing of notifications and citations. Performs related work as directed. Comply with all written City policies and procedures. Adhere to assigned work schedule as outlined in City and department attendance policies and procedures. When assigned to Code Compliance Officer, Senior Duties of Code Compliance Officer carry over, in addition to: Assists the Code Enforcement Supervisor in prioritizing case assignments and is responsible for entering, routing, and assignment of cases to assigned staff within the Code Enforcement division. Performs public speaking presentations to various boards, commissions, homeowners associations, civic groups, and other similar entities. Both the City and the employee contributes toward CalPERS retirement contributions. The city also participates in Social Security. Health and Dental Insurance: The City offers the choice of HMO and PPO plans. The city pays major portion of the premium for employee and dependents depending on the health/ dental plan selected. Life Insurance: City-paid term life insurance policy equal to three (3) times annual salary to a maximum of $500,000. Disability Insurance: City-paid short-term and long-term disability insurance. Management Physical: Annual City-paid physical examination. Vacation: Twelve (12) vacation days after the first year of service; 15 days after four years, six months of service; 20 days after 19 years, six months of service. Executive Leave: Forty (40) hours Executive Leave per year. The City Manager has discretion to grant an additional 40 hours each year. Sick Leave : One day earned per month; unlimited accumulation; conversion upon retirement to cash credit toward health and/or dental insurance premiums, or to pension credits. Classic CalPERS Members: The City will contribute a maximum of up to two percent (2%) of base salary* for all qualified Classic CalPERS members. Public Employees’ Pension Reform Act (PEPRA) CalPERS Members: Effective the second full pay period following City Council adoption, the City contribution will increase from two percent (2%) to three percent (3%) of base salary* for all qualified PEPRA CalPERS members. Flexible Spending Account (FSA): Optional election for employees to reduce taxable income for payment of allowable childcare or medical expenses. Flexible/Hybrid Work Schedule: Available (subject to City Manager approval). Paid Parental Leave: The City provides one hundred and sixty (160) hours of Paid Parental Leave at 100% of salary, for the birth, adoption or foster placement of a child, regardless of the gender, marital status or sexual orientation of the parent.
