Job DescriptionResponsible for pedestrian and vehicular traffic control duties at the Harrisburg International Airport, a commercial service small hub airport that serves approximately 1.4 million customers annually.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESEnforces Airport parking regulations by directing traffic and issuing parking tickets for applicable laws and ordinances violations.Promotes the safety of both pedestrians and vehicles by facilitating the smooth flow of traffic.Assists airport patrons by providing information and directions when requested.Notifies the Police Department of suspicious activities and/or suspected violations of Commonwealth Laws and Airport Security Regulations.Notifies the Police Department of emergency or critical situations that may occur in the work area.Conducts vehicle searches as required for entrance into the parking garage or airport roadway system.Performs complementary customer service functions consistent with airport customer service standards.Performs any other duty or assignment delegated by proper authority.QUALIFICATIONSTo successfully perform this job, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Ability to pass a 10‑year background and criminal investigation to be issued an Airport Identification Badge and access areas that contain Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) information and/or computer systems.Cognitive AbilityAbility to comprehend, retain and follow oral and written instructions. Must exercise good judgment, work independently, make decisions, organize and maintain detailed information. Must effectively set priorities. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations without precedent.Physical DemandsSpend periods standing, walking, or sitting.Work EnvironmentMay be required to work rotating shifts and assignments, including weekends and holidays, and to work overtime hours with little or no notice. Must be able to withstand prolonged exposure to extreme weather conditions, including ice, snow, rain, and heat. Exposure to traffic and related noise and air quality. Constant interaction with the public.Language and Communication SkillsMust be able to read, write, and communicate effectively in the English language. Must be able to read and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, standard operating procedures, policy and procedure manuals, or governmental regulations. Must be able to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, shift personnel, clients, customers, and the general public.
