A Masters Degree in Recreation Administration is desirable. Experience: The equivalent of two (2) years of experience in the class of Recreation Coordinator II in the Hayward Area Recreation and Park District . OR The equivalent of four (4) years of full-time professional experience in recreation programming which must have included the supervision of paid recreational personnel. License: Valid California Motor Vehicle operator’s license and a good driving record. Age Requirement: Must be at least 18 years of age at time of hire. JOB SUMMARY JOB SUMMARY The City of San Marcos is looking for an energetic and organized individual to staff our Discovery Camp. The camp provides area children, ages 5 thru 10, with a fun and educational filled summer that includes games, activities, science experiments, crafts, and field trips! This is temporary employment. The position begins June 3,2024, for staff training, and Discovery Camp begins June 10, 2024. Camps run for 8 weeks - ending on August 3, 2024. The Site Supervisor reports to the Youth Services Coordinator. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DECISION MAKING ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Organize and supervise educational and recreational program activities; provides supervision for children and staff at program sites and on field trips including transporting kids by bus. Encourages participation in activities, ensures children are always accounted for, and adheres to safety policies and procedures including pickup and drop off of children. Clean up during program hours as required for all programs (janitorial is contracted and is not available during the day). Schedules daily and weekly camp educational lesson plans: crafts, games, and onsite and offsite activities. Assists in coordinating and administering the City’s Discovery Camp Program. Participates in monitoring and organizing camp activities; prepares program records and documentation; and performs other related duties.Supervises three Activity Leaders.Communicates any concerns or information to the Youth Services Coordinator. DECISION MAKING Must be able to perform duties safely and apply policies and procedures appropriately. Supervise children at all times. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Salary is dependent upon qualifications) MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS High School Diploma and some college credit hours in natural sciences, science/elementary education, recreation administration, or related field is preferred. CPR/First Aid Certification is required during week of training- administered by COSM. At least 2 years related experience required. Valid Texas Driver's License with acceptable driving record. Follows label instructions to mix and dilute cleansers, disinfectants and stripping agents to ensure proper strength for use. Answers questions and provides standard information to the public if working in a public facility. Reports unauthorized persons and other security problems. Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team. Keeps basic records of work performed, time sheets, etc. May set up meeting rooms and rearrange furniture; may drive a County motor vehicle to specified work sites. May oversee the work of community service workers when assigned.
