The ED Technician II functions under the supervision of a licensed registered nurse or therapist; they provide care, which does not require the judgment and skills of a licensed professional. After competency verification, the ED Technician II may deliver patient care services to the neonate, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations. The care may include, but is not limited to, obtaining and recording measurements in the EHR, blood pressure, pulse, temperature and pulse oximetry, drawing blood, EKG, transporting patients, obtaining urine and stool specimens, performing point of care testing, assisting with ED procedures consistent with the scope of the employee's position, measuring and assisting in applying sling, cervical collar, splints and crutches, bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, ambulating, transferring, feeding, observing, and reporting the general well-being of the person(s) to whom they are providing care.ResponsibilitiesProvide general basic nursing care, such as positioning patients, lifting and turning, assisting in use of bedpan, commode, urinal or bathroom, and weighing.Perform routine, uncomplicated treatment procedures including enemas, application of hot and cold compresses, holding limbs for casting, wound cleansing, taking vital signs including orthostatic vital signs and rectal temperatures and splinting of extremities. Collect and record intake and output, and chaperone pelvic and rectal examinations.Set up for suturing and procedures, using sterile technique; dismantle procedure set, caring for soiled instruments safely and correctly.Accurately complete requisitions for ordered exams, including lab, imaging, cardiopulmonary, and other requisitions as required.Immediately report any observed changes in condition or behavior of patients and document any care given in an acceptable medical legal fashion. Immediately report any unusual incidents.Transport patients using wheelchair or stretcher within hospital and to/from vehicles; assist those patients requiring help with ambulation.Restock linen and supplies to exam rooms; fill blanket warmer and IV trays; provide general cleaning, including emptying trash, straightening waiting area, etc. Washes and changes stretcher or exam table linen and empties dirty laundry.Perform venipuncture for the purpose of insertion of IV catheter and the withdrawal of blood, monitoring the patient's condition before, during, and after the withdrawal.Read and interpret documents such as doctors' orders, drug names, and lab tests.Administer maintenance intravenous fluids per provider order, under the direction of the primary care Registered Nurse.All other duties as assigned within the scope and range of job responsibilities.Required Education, Credential(s) and ExperienceEducation: High School Diploma or GED; Certificate Program ParamedicCredential(s): Basic Life Support; Paramedic; National Registry of EMT or ParamedicExperience: New Graduate Preferred: 1+ years LPN experience; Paramedic experience#J-18808-Ljbffr
