With a culture built on innovation and operational excellence, LLNL is a place where your expertise can make a real impact.Job DescriptionWe are looking for a Counterintelligence Officer in the Counterintelligence Program to perform comprehensive research and analysis, conduct interviews, and present recommendations to senior management, high‑level DOE personnel, and officials of intelligence agencies on relevant counterintelligence (CI) issues, ensuring the Laboratory's compliance with Department of Energy (DOE) Order 475.1 (CI Program). The position will be filled at either level based on knowledge and relevant experience as assessed by the hiring team. Additional responsibilities outlined below will be assigned if hired at the higher level.You willConduct comprehensive complex, diverse, and multi‑faced CI/counterterrorism investigations.Collect and review information from a variety of open and secure sources to assess and mitigate any CI/CT threats associated with foreign visits, travel, and contacts.Produce detailed and accurate intelligence reports/records in appropriate intelligence databases, and investigative case files.Conduct and present face‑to‑face briefings/debriefings and presentations to Laboratory personnel regarding hosting foreign nationals, foreign travel, and specific CI/CT risks/threats.Participate in joint task forces and collaborations with internal Laboratory divisions, DOE Office of Intelligence and Counterintelligence (DOE IN), CI programs at other national laboratories, the United States Intelligence Community (USIC), and local law enforcement to address CI/CT issues.Support all elements of the CI outreach program, including refining, developing, and presenting CI awareness and training material to all employees/members of the workforce.Enter, retrieve, and manipulate information within Laboratory systems and DOE IN-20 CI analytical and investigative databases.Perform other duties as assigned.Additional Responsibilities (Level 3)Coordinate joint task forces and collaborations with internal Laboratory divisions, DOE IN, CI programs at other national laboratories, the USIC, and local law enforcement to address CI/CT issues.Address novel CI/CT issues with little known precedence and prepare succinct recommendations for LLNL senior management on appropriate courses of action; develop innovative solutions to often unusually complex problems.Provide guidance and direction to other program team members, plan and lead collaborative projects/investigations with peers and within the Laboratory, DOE IN, and the USIC.QualificationsAbility to secure and maintain a Department of Energy Q‑level clearance and obtain Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) access.Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.Experience employing investigative procedures and techniques, including researching, interviewing, and documenting CI investigations.Experience identifying foreign government missions, functions, and collection processes, as well as U.S. intelligence collection and dissemination methods.Knowledge and experience working on national security issues related to the USIC.Broad knowledge of classified and unclassified databases, software applications, and intelligence research tools to assess foreign capabilities.Specialized training and/or expertise in counterespionage, interviewing, counterproliferation, weapons systems, or foreign intelligence services.Working knowledge of automated business tools/technologies, expert knowledge of MS Office, and familiarity with basic principles of hardware, software, and network systems.Experience interpreting and applying government and Laboratory policies, procedures, orders, and regulations.Additional Qualifications (Level 3)Significant experience employing investigative procedures and techniques for complex CI investigations.Significant experience identifying foreign government missions, functions, and collection processes, and U.S. intelligence collection and dissemination.Significant specialized training and/or expertise in espionage, counterproliferation, weapons systems, or foreign intelligence services.Desired QualificationsMaster's degree in a related field.Pay Range$114,900 – $140,712 annually for the K03.2 level; $137,910 – $168,852 annually for the K03.3 levelAdditional Information#LI‑HybridPosition InformationThis is a Career Indefinite position, open to Lab employees and external candidates.BenefitsIncluded in 2026 Best Places to Work by GlassdoorFlexible schedules (depending on project needs)Pre‑Employment Drug TestExternal applicant(s) selected for this position must pass a post‑offer, pre‑employment drug test that includes testing for marijuana.Wireless and Medical DevicesDepartment of Energy policy limits the use of mobile devices in Limited Areas.
