    Dispatcher

    Coordinates radio and telephone communications to Security/Emergency/Guest Relations functions throughout the property during the annual OC Fair event. This is a seasonal temporary position not to exceed 122 days.

    Essential Functions:

    • Answers telephones andradio-operated communications systems.
    • Screens requests for service to determine appropriate response by either Guest Relations department personnel, emergency and/or law enforcement personnel.
    • Dispatches department personnel to security, safety and/or emergency related incidences throughout the fairgrounds.
    • Relays information to other law enforcement agencies as needed.
    • Acts as ambassador for the OC Fair & Event Center by answering inquiries from patrons, employees, business partners and guests, and responds to requests for assistance.
    • Ensures that safe practices are in effect and works proactively with others to promote a safe environment.
    • Contributes to written investigation reports.

    Qualifications:

    • Must be at least 18 years of age.
    • Ability to follow verbal instructions necessary.
    • Demonstrated excellent customer service skills a must, particularly in dealing with others in emergency and/or difficult situations.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills necessary.
    • Must have the ability to remain calm while handling large volumes of requests for service and possible emergency situations.
    • The ability to quickly learn appropriate radio terminology and etiquette used by the Safety & Security Department, as well as the layout of the fairgrounds property necessary.
    • Must be available to work all 23 days of the annual OC Fair (mid July- mid August).
    • Ability to work outside the normal business day/week as demanded by events and programs.

    Preferences:

    • Previous experience as a dispatcher preferred.

    Physical Demands:

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to walk, and must constantly use hands and fingers to operate, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time.

    Work Environment:

    Will work in a fast-paced environment, mostly in outdoor locations during all types of weather. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud, but quieter noise levels may be experienced if working in indoor locations.
