Job Summary College security officers are a non‑sworn position assisting the College Police to ensure the safety of students, staff, and property through patrols, access control, and incident response. This department is a 24/7 operation with staffing on all three shifts.Key Responsibilities Patrol campus grounds and buildings (residential, academic, and administrative) to identify safety hazards, unauthorized persons, or breaches of security.Access control: locking and unlocking buildings/rooms.Emergency response: assist Police with fire alarms, medical emergencies, and disturbances, often including administering first aid or CPR.Reporting: preparing all types of incident reports.Traffic and safety: directing traffic, enforcing parking regulations, and assisting motorists.Monitoring systems: radio and alarm monitoring.Public interaction: handle walk‑in requests for assistance at the police department.Required Skills and Qualifications Physical & schedule needs: frequently requires working nights, weekends, and holidays; able to walk for extended periods and stand for long durations.Communication: excellent verbal and written skills; maintain composure during stressful, high‑pressure situations.Technical proficiency: operate radio systems, CAD software, and Microsoft Office; attain DCJIS certification.Certifications: EMD (Emergency Medical Dispatch) and APCO PST1 certifications or ability to obtain them helpful.Background check: must pass a thorough background check and possess a clean driver's history.Availability: must be able to work varied shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent.Previous experience in public safety, security, or customer service.Preferred Qualifications College degree in law enforcement or public safety.Good customer service skills.Ability to work in a fast‑paced, multi‑tasked environment.CPR/first aid or ability to attain this knowledge.CAD knowledge.DCJIS certification.Position Type Fixed term, casual, non‑benefitted position.
