Since 2005, St. Louis Children's has been designated as a Magnet® hospital for nursing excellence from the American Nurses Credentialing Center® (ANCC).Role PurposeThe Paramedic-ED and Level 1 Trauma is responsible for all aspects of emergency/trauma medical services and non-medical care in the Emergency and Trauma environment. This position works under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), Nurse Practitioner and/or an Emergency Room (ER) physician in order to be interchangeable with nursing demands in these situations.ResponsibilitiesDocuments initial and updated assessments on all patients; performs triage and assigns trauma patients to rooms. Educates and discharges patients as necessary.Implements individualized quality care after initial evaluation. Performs invasive procedures such as IV and catheter placements, testing including all lab tests, treatments and sedations as directed by the RN, NP or Physician.Maintains certifications, competency and actively participates in training for emergency response. Assists with direct patient care during disasters, crisis intervention and response. Collaborate with community first responders to develop, implement, and evaluate preparedness strategies.Responsible for assisting in prioritizing and performing care for medical, trauma and mental health patients for various levels of acuities. This includes bedside trauma care, medication administration including narcotics and other bedside responsibilities within the Paramedic scope of practice.Performs routine equipment function tests and calibrations, assists with the maintenance and cleaning of patient care equipment and with the inventory of supplies and equipment ensuring adequate supply levels.BJC has determined this is a safety-sensitive position.
