All adult males entering the Indiana Department of Correction are received, assessed, and classified at this facility. Assessments include physical and mental health evaluations, addiction services screening, and education and work‑readiness reviews. This information helps determine the most appropriate long‑term facility placement. Staff coordinate comprehensive evaluations to support safety and rehabilitation. The center plays a key role in establishing individualized plans for incarcerated individuals. To learn more about the Reception Diagnostic Center.Role OverviewAs a Classification Specialist, you will interview incarcerated individuals, review their newly received packets, conduct intake classification assessments, and recommend initial assignments and security levels.Salary StatementThe salary for this position traditionally starts at $47,320.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.A Day in the Life:The essential functions of this role are as follows:Review recently received offender packets and recommend initial classification level.Conduct initial intake classification review, provide information to the immediate supervisor and recommend their initial assignments.Review the classification designations at the facility level to assign or recommend the final security and custody levels to the immediate supervisor or central office analyst.Finalize Classification Hearing Results of offender job changes, program changes and facility transfer recommendations.Serve as designee in the classification department in the absence of the Classification Supervisor.Serve as designee to facilitate supervision of offender release duties, court order preparation, and Interstate Compact issues as needed.The job profile is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee.
