    Employees in this role are under general supervision; performs investigations of crimes and accidents, protects property, facilities and citizens through law enforcement techniques; provides escort service; performs related and occasionally other duties as assigned. This position is assigned to 12-hours shifts in the Panama schedule format.Essential Functions (Principal Duties and Job Responsibilities):Investigates suspected crimes, reports findings, and arrests suspected individualsDirects and controls traffic, monitors parking operation, and issues parking tickets; investigates accidentsPatrols the campus, business office, classrooms, recreational facilities, dormitories, hospital, facility, etc. by foot or motor vehicle while armed with handgun.Performs related and occasionally other duties as assigned.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:Ability to attain an Armed Security LicenseAbility to qualify with a Glock 40 cal handgunAbility to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations and to determine proper course of actionKnowledge of campus policies, City, and State lawsAbility to understand and follow oral and written instructionsKnowledge of geographic area of the campusAbility to ascertain facts by personal contact, observations, and to determine proper course of actionAbility to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with students, the public, and other employeesAbility to enforce laws firmly, tactfully with respect for the rights of othersKnowledge of effective methods of investigationAbility to learn to operate law enforcement equipment required in the performance of required dutiesAbility to express ideas clearly and concisely, orally and writtenEducation and Experience Required:High School Diploma required or3 –12 months law enforcement work experience preferredAbility to hold and maintain an Armed Security License in the state of Tennessee.Equal Employment Opportunity StatementMeharry Medical College complies with Title IX and is an affirmative action employer.
